She Was Beautiful

She had a beautiful spirit and unwavering Faith.

She would hum hymnals while cleaning the house. I remember the sound of her feet sliding across the floor. She was proud and made me feel special. Her eyes twinkled. You could see the goodness of her soul. She was wise beyond measure. She loved. She loved us all! She made a home for us. She connected us with a thread of love and bonded us together in affinity. She introduced us to the Love of Jesus. She lived out her Faith. A faithful servant she was. She served her family, her church and her community.

She was funny and made me laugh. “I wouldn’t be that stupid” she would say.

She was so strong. A strong tower she was.

She was a city on a hill! She was the light… a beacon! No matter how far away we were, no matter how low or how dark it was… we could find our back to the light. A loving face we found standing in the door with a broom; a warm meal on the table. She could see us coming up over the Jerry Brown hill.

I remember… the smell of Dove soap. Dipping Snuff and spit cups. Pound cakes and mini pies. “Stop running through this house, y’all gone make my cake fall.”

I loved her dearly and knew that I was loved!
